Center for Christian Living–First Class Begins Wednesday, February 8
The opening class of the Center for Christian Living begins this Wedensday, February 8, at 6:30 to 8 pm, in Room 201 .  Bill Campbell will aslo introduce the Center for Christian Living before Teresa McIlroy introduces her class, Fueling Your Body for Life in His Kingdom.

Something That’s Designed Just for You!
It is exciting to announce the beginning of the Center for Christian Living at Garnett. Everything about the Center has been carefully put together with YOU and your spiritual progress in view. We’ve prayed about it. Sought the Holy Spirit’s guidance. And now we we’re ready to set it in motion, believing that God will greatly bless the Center in a special way.
Bill Campbell will have a brief introduction Wednesday, February 8, to acquaint you with the nature of the Center. So, don’t miss the opportunity to hear first-hand about the launching of this new ministry.  Everything will begin promptly at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium.
Following Bill’s presentation on Wednesday, Teresa McIlroy’s new class will begin in the partitioned classroom at the back of the Auditorium. Have you registered yet for her class? Fueling Your Body for Life in His Kingdom
In this class you will learn why many people struggle with overeating and why diets usually don’t work.  You will learn what it means to eat instinctively, listening to your body’s physical symptoms of hunger and fullness.  You will explore the reasons behind overeating and what you are truly trying to satisfy.  We will take a journey together to discover how God’s wisdom is so much greater than the world’s, how God has given what you need to guide your choices, and how our soul can be filled with everlasting nourishment and satisfaction.  The class begin will begin Wednesday, February 8, 6:30-8 pm, for 8 weeks.  Child care will be provided.

Collide:
Ask anyone who’s ever run into a sliding glass door that was closed, or went for the same baseball as a teammate, or experienced a fender bender at a stoplight–a collision changes things. Whether it’s a bump on the head or a cracked bumper, something is not the same as it was before. The same thing happens when we collide with God or His truth or even other people. We’re changed. But unless we put ourselves in a position to collide, everything will stay the same. So are you ready to change, are you ready to collide?
Parents: Be watching for the email with your new Parent Cue that will provide details of this 3 week series as well as information on how you can be an important part of it.
618 Prayer Gathering 
Wednesday, February 1, will be our first 618 Prayer Gathering with Garnett and Connection churches.  Adult and Student classes will not be held so everyone can attend the prayer gathering, but Children’s classes will be held.
 
Souper Bowl of Caring
Only one more week to collect nonperishable food items for Garnett’s Food Pantry! Specific items requested are: boxes of cereal, oatmeal, beans and rice. Collection day is Sunday, February 5. Collect items in your small groups/Bible classes, bring them to service on February 5, and winners will be announced the following week. (You will have a chance to collect last-minute donations during your Super Bowl Parties. Just contact Beth West after the Super Bowl about getting them up to the church and added to your total.)
Center for Christian Living
Excitement is beginning to mount at Garnett. Why? Because the launching of the Center for Christian Living is about to take place. Great opportunities will be available for you to grow and be stretched in your relationship with Christ Jesus. Our very first class offering will begin on February 8. Teresa McIlroy will teach this opening class on, “Becoming Healthier Christians.” Entitled, “Fueling Your Body for Life in His Kingdom,” the class will focus on helping you develop a much healthier body at the beginning of 2012.
What steps must I take to become involved in this class? Glad you asked! We need you to register today, if you have not done so already, on the sign up list at Cafe Mosaic. Teresa has put together a well-focused and concentrated study that will enable you to live a healthier life. If you have further questions about this class, talk with Teresa McIlroy or Bill Campbell today.

We believe in the power of corporate prayer. Something significant happens when God’s people come together to pray. Throughout Scripture, when God’s people came together to pray, God heard and answered them.

First Wednesday Large Group Gathering
On the first Wednesday of every month, at 6:18pm, we join together with Connection Church for a special night of worship. This service features live music, Scripture, Communion, and a time of prayer for our churches and community.

What takes place at the prayer gathering?
The first Wednesday large group gathering includes unplugged worship, Scripture, teaching, and prayer. The format for this gathering is similar to our Sunday morning worship service.

Will I have to pray out loud?
Some people pray out loud and others pray quietly. We encourage everyone to participate at whatever level they feel comfortable.

How long does the prayer gathering last?
Each prayer gathering lasts about an hour.

Is childcare provided?
Childcare is provided for newborns – 5th Grade.

Learning to Fast from Jesus
Sunday, January 15 we began a 21-day learning period about fasting and prayer. We looked at 40 images of Christ in the wilderness. Our memory verse is Matthew 4:4, and small groups and classes are reading texts about Jesus fasting from Matthew 4, Luke 4, and Mark 1. Some resources were handed out about fasting, particularly a limited fast called “Daniel Fast. My family decided last week was our preparation, groceries and discussion, to get ready and experiment with the Daniel Fast this week of January 22. This period of fasting is good preparation for some great things to come in February . . .

618 Prayer Gathering
At 6:18 pm Wednesday, February 1 in the auditorium we are launching the 618 Prayer Gathering hosted by Garnett Church and Connection Church. We plan to host this the first Wednesday of each month. Come at 6:18 pm and pray with others or quietly pray until time to begin the corporate time of prayer at 6:30. We’ll have an “unplugged” instrumental worship time with members of Connection Church and Garnett Church praise teams working together. Then we’ll have times of directed group prayers where either Brad or Greg or other leaders will set up a prayer theme and give prayer directions for small groups or pairs to pray about. We’ll also have a brief Bible teaching and invitation to prayer and confession. Finally, we’ll have praise reports for prayers answered and testimonies. All from these two churches and our community are invited! Come and see what the Lord has done, is doing, and will do!

The period of fasting is also good preparation for the Souper Bowl of Caring. We’re encouraging small groups, classes, and families to collect canned food for the Food Pantry and bring it on Super Bowl Sunday, and we’ll also have a little competition between the small groups and classes and even see if Connection Church and Garnett Church can out-collect each other.

Finally, this period of fasting is a great preparation for the launch of the Center for Christian Living. Bill Campbell has been praying and diligently working through the details of how we can launch new Bible and Life Skills classes as a key way that we grow in Christ, become healthier Christians, and become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. The first new class this year will be on Wednesday night and called “Becoming Healthier Christians.” More details on another page of the bulletin.

5k4 KDZ
The 2nd Annual 5K4 KDZ will be held on Saturday, April 14. Registration information will be available soon but now is the time to start training! 2. Read Matthew 9:14. Why did Jesus’ followers not fast and others did?
3. Read Matthew 9:15. What did Jesus say to those complaining about Jesus’ followers not fasting? The early church took to heart the words, “then they will fast” as the time after Jesus left the earth and until his return.
4. What the significance of Jesus’ fasting to his followers?
5. Would you commit to a one day time of fasting and prayer for the purpose of seeking God’s rule in your life and to pray for people far from God to become fully devoted followers of Jesus?
6. While you’re fasting: What is God revealing to you about Himself, your life?

We’ve all used words while being a little uncertain of the actual meaning. But when it comes to words like “belief,” “righteousness” and “salvation,” our understanding makes a huge difference in how we live our Christian faith and how we view God.

Prayer Requests
A beloved and long-time member of the Garnett family has passed from this life and has gone home to be with the Lord. Faye Davis passed away at 1:45 am January 11. Her son, Mike Davis, says they are doing fine and that Faye has been released from suffering to be with God. The funeral will be held at Floral Haven Monday, January 16, at 12:30 pm, and her body will be interred near the old home place in Helena, Oklahoma, at the Good Hope Cemetery.
