Garnett is hosting a “Back to Life” weekend, December 12-13 with special guest Zach Smith from Dry Bones Denver.

Would you like to take a “Turf Tour” with us? This is a walking and bus tour around East Tulsa to see the places of darkness and call God’s light into those dark places. We’ll start at our church facility and see squats for homeless people in the area, discover more about the diversity in East Tulsa, and become more aware of the problems of drug and alcohol abuse with a visit to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Sunday Zach Smith will be with us and you can expect to hear him speak in our Sunday worship at 10 am Sunday, December 13. We’ll also have students and adults speak who have visited Dry Bones Denver.

One of our church leaders, Robert Garland, will be preaching Sunday, December 6, and you can expect to hear about Mary and how God can do amazing things in unexpected places and people. Here is a review of a great book on Mary by Scot McKnight.

“The silenced Mary of Protestantism who only shows up quietly at Christmas needs to be dismissed as unhistorical. It is time for a Mary upgrade in the Evangelical world. – Ben Witherington, Professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary

Come & See Sunday Nov 29

After you enjoy (or soak up some stress, as the case may be) the Thanksgiving break, come and see why people believe Garnett Church of Christ is a place where God is changing lives like yours and hundreds who find a spiritual home here.

Expect a continuing sermon series on the Holy Spirit, preached by Greg Taylor. Dee Johnson will be showing photos of Methodist Manor and the students who visit there regularly to show love and friendship to residents.

Expect to witness the baptisms of Alicia Allami and Jada Hall, two of our teenagers who are joining the journey with Christ and our church. We are happy and excited to help them in this signpost on their journey with Jesus. You will witness full immersions and hear two young disciples claim Christ as their Lord.

You can also expect to be greeted warmly in our Mall, be offered information but not pressured to provide any information if you do not want to. We want more than anything else to see people enter and dwell relationship with God, to be connected with the saving work of Christ, and to experience the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to help you in your life and mission to serve God and others in this world and prepare you for the life to come.

Wow! That’s a lot to expect! There’s more but we also expect you will see and hear things we don’t even know about, ways the Spirit works that are completely out of our control. Our job as a church is to lay out the good news of Christ for our neighbors and we know God’s Spirit is the one who will change your life.

We are seeking this week to identify a few struggling families in our congregation or who regularly come to our Wednesday Neighborhood Kitchens Meals.

If you would like to nominate a family to receive a Thanksgiving basket, let us know by emailing the name and any contact information you can give us for that family. You do not have to identify yourself, but this will help us if we need to clarify anything.

If you want to know more about the FriendSpeak ministry, Ben Woodward is coming at 10 am Saturday for an extra meeting to talk about how the ministry can be operated at Garnett. We also have Angel Food distribution that morning, so come out to the Mall at Garnett and fellowship and enjoy greeting people from the community collecting their Angel Food orders and join us for a FriendSpeak meeting.

FriendSpeak is a ministry that puts people together to share friendship, English conversation to help those who speak English as a second language (ESL). Using a curriculum that has the text of the Gospel of Luke and glossary words, the friends can go over vocabulary and converse. This kind of conversation is vital to people learning to speak fluent English.

We are calling for all who would want to have these friendships to come to the meetings at 9 am Sunday, November 15. Then there is a lunch and 2 hours of sessions after lunch Sunday. The suggested fee is $25 but free to anyone who cannot afford the fee. We do not want any fees to prevent you from participating.
